Unequipped hosps can get free tests done from NABL-approved labsJaipur: There is more relief for people seeking free medical treatment under the state government’s Mukhya Mantri Nishulk Nirogi Rajasthan Yojna (MMNNRY). Hospitals that do not have facilities for certain diagnostic tests have been asked by the health department to get those tests done at National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) approved laboratories so that patients get free healthcare services under the scheme.

Several hospitals, including main hospitals like Sawai Man Singh Hospital attached to medical colleges, do not have facilities for certain diagnostic tests. The health department’s latest move will ensure patients are not charged for these tests under MMNNRY, which became operational from May 1.

While allowing hospitals to get the test done outside, the health department also directed the hospitals attached to medical colleges to develop in-house facilities for all the tests required for treatment.

“The hospital administrations have been given a month to send proposals to the health department for developing in-house facilities for all required diagnostic tests,” said a health department official. Hospitals attached to medical colleges have also been asked to get the tests done from the NABL laboratory if facilities for those tests are not available there. The rates for the tests to be paid to NABL will be as per the rates fixed by Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS).

The health department has also asked medical colleges and district hospitals across the state to send proposals for increasing the number of testing facilities as per their requirements. They will send the proposals to the state government. “The state government will continue increasing the number of tests in the list provided to patients on a regular basis and as per requirement after evaluation,” said a health department official.
