Indore: Private hospitals in Madhya Pradesh have three and half times more value of authorized hospital admissions under Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) than government facilities in current fiscal.
In MP, around 508 empanelled hospitals have treated patients for around Rs 581.083 crore from April this year till August 5, showed a reply of the health ministry in Lok Sabha on August 5 on a question.
In the same period around 475 empanelled government health facilities have authorised treatment value of Rs 166.492 crore, showed reply.
Ayushman Bharat- a flagship scheme of the Government of India, was launched in 2018 as recommended by the National Health Policy 2017, to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Ayushman Bharat is an attempt to move from a sectoral and segmented approach of health service delivery to a comprehensive need-based health care service. Treatment in private hospitals under PMJAY on the rise in state. Since then, the private hospitals in MP are receiving more sums as claims for authorised value of hospital admissions.
The amount received by private hospitals for treatment under the scheme soared exponentially from Rs 34.29 crore in 2018-19 to Rs 581 crore in current fiscal. In 2021-22 it was at Rs 871 crore for private hospitals from Rs 395 crore in 2020-21, showed reply.
MP Ayushman CEO Dr Ayushman Anurag Choudhary told TOI, “Under the scheme, the people have the choice to visit facilities in any of the public or private sectors. The higher authorised hospital admission in private hospitals is showing that more and more people are going to private hospitals for their treatment.”
“Even in the case of medical colleges in the state, private ones have a higher value of authorised admission than government ones”, said Choudhary.
In case of Indore, with the state’s biggest government hospital, super speciality hospital, around three-fourth of the claim amount under scheme was received by private hospitals till last year.
While talking to TOI, CMHO Dr BS Saitya said, “In the scheme the package for treatments like cardiac, orthopaedics, ophthalmology is very high. There are several private hospitals specialised in these kinds of high-end health services in the district.”
Similarly, in the case of state, the people rush towards private hospitals in Indore, Bhopal for such high end specialised care.
