New Delhi: Over nine crore COVID-19 doses in age group of 15-17, two crore plus precaution doses administered: PM ModiEvery year March 16 is celebrated as National Vaccination Day. The objective of observing this day is to spread awareness and the importance of vaccination amongst the masses as a preventive measure for several diseases.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a series of tweets, shared, “I would like to appreciate our state governments for their support towards India’s vaccination drive. Several states, especially the hill states and those where tourism is important, have achieved near total vaccination coverage and several big states have also done well.”

“In line with India’s ethos of caring for the entire planet, we sent vaccines to several nations under the Vaccine Maitri programme. I am glad that India’s vaccination efforts have made the global fight against COVID-19 stronger.”

“Today, India has administered over 180 crore doses, which includes over nine crore doses in the age group of 15-17 and over two crore precaution doses. This forms an important protective shield for our citizens against COVID-19.”

M Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President, India commenting on the importance of National Vaccination Day and how the COVID-19 vaccination has helped India in its fight against COVID-19, Naidu tweeted, “Happy to note that on National Vaccination Day 2022, India begins COVID jabs for 12-14-year-olds. With over 180 crore doses, our vaccination drive has been unprecedented in both scale & reach, thanks to the efforts by Center & State Governments, our health workers and vaccine suppliers.”

“Vaccination plays an important role in protecting life from deadly diseases. I am confident that like polio, we will be able to defeat COVID-19. There is a need to create awareness about vaccination among all people, especially in rural areas.”

“With the cooperation of the Central and State Governments and the combined efforts of the health workers and vaccine makers of the country, by administering 180 crore doses of vaccine, the country has achieved unprecedented success in the campaign against COVID-19.”

“It is a matter of great pleasure that today on National Immunisation Day, the COVID-19 vaccination programme is being started for the children of 12 to 14 years.”

The Centre on March 15 released guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination of children between 12-14 years beginning March 16. Corbevax vaccine would be used for the beneficiaries of this age group.

Two doses of Biological E’s intramuscular vaccine Corbevax would be administered to the beneficiaries in the 12-14 years age group at an interval of 28 days, then the guidelines said.

The Centre shared also these guidelines with states in a letter issued on Monday.
