Not carrying Driving license? No problem! Traffic Police will not challan you, but you got to do this

DigiLocker is a govt service for the public to upload and access documents like driving license anywhere and anytime and Traffic Police will not challan you if you have it.

Are you tired of forgetting to keep your driving license and other vehicle documents? Now you don’t need to carry the driving license every time! Surprised? DigiLocker will help you. It’s a cloud-based app for the public, launched by the government to keep official documents like driving license, Aadhaar card, PAN card, car registration certificate, educational certificates, birth certificate etc in a Digital form. You can save your Driving License and other documents related to vehicles on it and get freedom from carrying around their documents, as you can access the digital version anywhere anytime. The documents on DigiLocker are treated by all government authorities in similar fashion as the physical documents.

The DigiLocker app is linked to a person’s Aadhaar number, and provides users with 1GB of cloud storage to store their documents. The cloud storage is secured and safe. It uses a 256 bit secure socket layer (SSL) encryption for all the information transmitted.

Step 1:

First, you need to either download the DigiLocker app from Google Play Store (for Android users) or the Apple App Store (for iOS users) or simply go to the DigiLocker official portal https://www.digilocker.gov.in/dashboard 

Step 2:

Sign up yourself by submitting your phone number, name, date of birth, Aadhaar card details, email id and other required details. Authenticate your mobile number by submitting the 6-digit OTP. 
 

Step 3:

Now create a username and password for yourself and register your Aadhaar number, along with an acknowledgement that you have given your consent to DigiLocker to use your Aadhaar number to go ahead and sign you up. 

Step 4:

After submitting your Aadhaar number, again an OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number and Email. Authenticate the OTP so that the platform fetches your Aadhaar from UIDAI.

Step 5:

Your DigiLocker is set up successfully and now you are all set to upload your documents. 

Step 6:

Go to the ‘Home’ screen, and select the document issuing agencies i.e, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for a driving license. 

Step 7:

Next, select the documents and the app will automatically fill your name and date of birth.

Enter the serial number and click on ‘Get Document’. Save the document appeared on the screen and it’s done.
