Licences of 3 private hospitals suspended for not procuring fire safety NOC

Kanpur: The health department has suspended the licenses of three private nursing homes in the city as they failed to procure fire safety no objection certificates.

A team of the health department, headed by the additional chief medical officer (ACMO) Dr Subodh Prakash, inspected four nursing homes in Kalyanpur on Monday. Later, the ACMO suspended their licenses for not getting the NOC of fire.

The licenses of Maa Nursing Home, Divya Nursing Home and New Neelam Nursing Home have been suspended while Saransh Nursing Home has been given notice for incomplete fire arrangements, the ACMO said. “Until the three nursing homes procure NOCs, the admission of patients has been banned,” he added.

As per the safety module, hospitals and nursing homes need to take measures for fire prevention and control, maintenance schedules, and inspection protocols for fire safety installations. They should also fix the responsibilities of different departments in case of fire and conduct mock drills. They must ensure that fire alarm systems are in place and emergency exit signs are displayed prominently. The staff and others should be informed not to use lifts in case of fire.

A senior district official said, “Following the fire incident in a Lucknow hotel, the district magistrate had formed a committee and discussed the issue of people’s safety in hospitals.”

The committee in its report highlighted that several hospitals and nursing homes were operating without a fire NOC and safety clearance, the official added.
