JNU Admission News: The Jawaharlal Nehru University today i.e. January 12 during its academic council meeting decided to hold the JNU admission-cum-entrance examination for its various academic programmes from next year through a common universities entrance test (CUET) to be conducted by the National Testing Agency or NTA.
The decision to hold common universities entrance test or CUET for admissions into various JNU programmes for the academic year 2022-23 was arrived at the university’s 159th Academic Council meeting following an overwhelming endorsement by its members, as stated by the council.
JNU CUET Admission
The JNU admissions through CUET was in sync with the Academic Council’s earlier decision arrived at the council’s 157th meeting held on March 22, 2021 to adopt and admit students through a common universities entrance test whenever the JNU entrance examination would be planned by NTA.
“During the deliberations in the Academic Council, a large number of members including the Deans of Schools, Centre Chairpersons, and External Members of the council emphasized that CUCET would provide a level playing field to numerous eligible students from across the country reducing the burden of taking several entrance examinations…,” a JNU press note stated.

However, the JNU Teachers Association or JNUTA has not concurred with the Academic Council’s claim about JNU admissions through CUET being ‘overwhelmingly’ endorsed.
“After ending the meeting without allowing members to speak despite their raised hands, it is ironic that the University administration has persisted in shamelessly releasing a press note claiming ‘overwhelming ‘endorsement for all decisions taken at the Academic Council meeting held today,” the JNUTA said.
Until now, since 2019, the JNU Admissions to various programmes has been conducted by the university through JNU Entrance Examination (JNUEE) in collaboration with the NTA in CBT mode held across various exam centers in the country.
It may be noted here that besides JNU, Delhi University or DU has also decided to conduct admissions to its various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from the next academic year through CUET.
