jain: Only Rs 2.79L in cash found on Jain, all legal, says AAP; Kejriwal accused PM Modi of witch hunt | India News

New Delhi: Lashing out at the Centre for trying to implicate Satyendar Jain in a “false case”, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday alleged that PM Narendra Modi was on a “witch hunt” with full force against the AAP governments in Delhi and Punjab.
“Currently, the Prime Minister is on a witch hunt against AAP with full force. We’re seeing vicious campaigns, especially against the governments of Delhi and Punjab. Lies are being spread over and over. He may have the muscle of all his agencies, but God is with us,” Kejriwal tweeted.
Kejriwal’s comments came after the Enforcement Directorate claimed that it had seized Rs 2.85 crore unaccounted for cash and 133 gold coins after raids on the premises of Jain and his alleged associates on Monday. Several BJP functionaries, too, quoted the ED’s statement demanding sacking of Jain and resignation of the Kejriwal government over the issue.
ED is conducting a money laundering probe against Jain, who is in the agency’s custody till June 9.
AAP, however, claimed that ED could barely find Rs 2.79 lakh in cash and didn’t even seize that since it was all accounted for. Deputy CM Manish Sisodia alleged that now BJP was trying to showcase some unknown persons as close to Jain.
“BJP has broken all limits of lies and shamelessness. ED searched Satyendar Jain’s house for hours and found no evidence. Only Rs 2.79 lakh was found. Now, BJP is making false allegations by linking someone else to Jain. How low will BJP people fall?” Sisodia tweeted in Hindi.
Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh also posted a copy of the “panchnama” (seizure memo) to claim that only some cash had been found at Jain’s residence, and that too was not seized.
AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj made the same claims and accused BJP of twisting the facts. “ED conducted search operations at Jain’s house from 7 in the morning to 2 at night but could not find anything incriminating against him. PM Modi’s ED gave a clean chit to Jain through its seizure memo. It clearly states that Rs 2.79 lakh were found but not seized as they were accounted for,” he added.
Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta claimed that 133 gold coins and biscuits, besides Rs 3 crore in cash, were seized by ED on the premises of people close to Jain. “If Jain is so honest, he should be given Padma Shri. But in view of today’s raid, he should rather be given the Param Bharasht award. The way Kejriwal is defending Jain, it should be probed how much share he has in Jain’s benami properties,” he added.
East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir said Kejriwal’s pretense of honesty had been “completely exposed”. He added, “For a long time, the Delhi CM had been shielding the corruption of his associates because he was the ultimate beneficiary. But now everything is out in the open.”
