congress: Sonia seeks 3-4 weeks for ED appearance, Congress calls all its MPs to Delhi on day Rahul appears | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi is learnt to have sought around three-four weeks’ time to appear for questioning before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the wake of her Covid-19 infection. She was to appear for questioning in the National Herald-AJL case on Tuesday but she sent her Covid-19 test results to inform the agency that she is still positive for the virus. Besides infection, the Congress president has also been advised rest by doctors, sources said.
Meanwhile, the party was considering holding protests in the capital, including a march to the office of the enforcement agency, days before Congress member Rahul Gandhi‘s scheduled appearance before the ED in connection with the investigation into the National Herald case.
Congress has also called all its MPs and senior office bearers to the Akbar Road headquarters on Monday morning and they are likely to take out the march to coincide with Rahul’s visit to the agency office. Also, a meeting of state in charges will be held on Thursday to finalise a programme for countrywide protests. So far there was no indication that the party would take to the street to protest against ED’s move against the Gandhis.
The ED has alleged money laundering in the Herald-AJL debt settlement effected by its management that involves the Congress brass. But the Congress has rubbished the charges, arguing that there has been no transfer of assets and no money exchanged, for there to be any laundering. Congress has accused the governing BJP of filing a baseless case out of political vendetta.
