Body of Indian student killed in Ukraine shelling to be brought to Karnataka on Monday | India News

NEW DELHI: The body of Naveen Shekarappa Gyanagoudarm, a student of Kharkiv Medical University who had died in a shelling attack in Ukraine this month, will arrive at the Bengaluru airport on Monday, Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Friday.
Naveen, hailing from Chalagere village in Karnataka’s Haveri district, was a fourth-year medical student at the university.
“With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The ministry is in touch with his family,” MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi had tweeted, announcing the news on March 1.
Naveen was living in a bunker below his flat.
According to Naveen’s friends, students went in batches to purchase groceries and food from supermarkets whenever the curfew was lifted. Naveen’s batchmate Goutham R said he had gone to the grocery store to buy food. “There was firing. All his friends have returned. I know him personally. I have been trying to reach him. His phone is not reachable. And the batchmates who went with him have confirmed that he was shot dead,” he said.
