Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s live coverage of the IPL 2022 match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.
That would be all from our side. Thanks for joining us.
Here’s what Tewatia, the man of the moment, had to say: “Amazing feeling. There was nothing to think! Just go there and hit sixes, that’s what me and David where thinking. I planned against Smith… The last ball was off the middle of the bat, and I knew it was six. The first ball he bowled was wide outside off, and so I thought the last ball was going to come there too.”
My word. What a knock. Take a bow, Tewatia. Hardik Pandya can’t quite believe it in the dug out. It looked like it was all going downhill when Hardik got run out. Then with 12 needed off 2 balls, Tewatia hammered one over deep midwicket and another over long on to seal a stunning chase. Kudos to Shubman Gill, whose 96 set up the chase. The young Sai Sudharsan played a pleasing knock too but in the end, it was Tewatia who had the final say. What a man. What a finish. Gujarat Titans have now won three on the trot. They are now second in the points table.

Good finish in the end from PBKS. They’ve Rahul Chahar to thank for it, whose 14-ball 22 has helped Punjab to a fighting total. Punjab were eyeing a 200-plus total when Liam Livingstone was going great guns. But Rashid Khan got Livingstone and Shahrukh Khan in one over to start a slide which saw Punjab slip to 162/9. Bairstow to debut for Punjab Kings. Sai Sudharsan, the left-hand top-order batter, and Darshan Nalkande, the right-arm fast bowler to debut for Gujarat Titans. They come in place of Vijay Shankar and Varun Aaron. Bairstow replaces Rajapaksa.
The daredevil approach of Punjab Kings and the dew have been the talking points of this Indian Premier League so far. The no holds barred, high-voltage attack during the powerplay overs have made this bunch of powerful hitters the most dangerous side in this tournament.
Shikhar Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Liam Livingstone have already given glimpses of the mayhem. However, the cavalier approach of Punjab Kings has its pitfalls as seen in the collapses the team suffered against Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. But it is unlikely that it will change its style against Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne Stadium on Friday.
Punjab Kings is riding high after thrashing defending champion Chennai Super Kings at the same venue in its last match. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans is undefeated after two matches.
Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya has revelled in his new role and has made vital contributions with the bat. He has also completed his quota of overs comfortably. Shubman Gill has run into form but Gujarat will need more runs from the top order batters to put pressure on Punjab.
Gujarat’s bowling – the in-form Mohammed Shami, the fiery Lockie Ferguson and wily Rashid Khan – will pose more challenges to Punjab batters than other bowling attacks they have faced so far.
If the Gujarat bowlers choke the Punjab top order, it could prove to be decisive in this contest.
