CSK vs RCB LIVE COMMENTARY

Shahbaz continues. Drifts down leg with the turn and Dube turns it down for a single. Uthappa collects two through the off side.

CSK 73/2 in 11 overs: Hasaranga to bowl his first. Starts off with a googly that turns away from Dube’s swing outside off and he misses. SIX! He connects this time and sends over this tossed up delivery on middle over long on. Two singles follow. Three fielders now on the leg side now in deep for Dube. FOUR! Dube still finds the gap to the boundary. Short one and Dube goes back to cream this through mid wicket and into the gap. Keeps strike with a single off the last ball.

CSK 60/2 in 10 overs: Shahbaz into the attack. Starts off full on off stump defended back by Dube. A little too straight and Dube tucks it behind for one. Uthappa cuts off the backfoot through the off for one more. Two more singles follow. Uthappa misses out on a loose one wide outside off. Just five singles from the over.

CSK 55/2 in 9 overs: SIX! Maxwell tosses it up on middle and Dube hammers it over long on for a maximum after three dot balls. Eight runs from the Maxwell over. Time for a time out.

CSK 47/2 in 8 overs: Dube starts off with a single though point. FOUR! Uthappa hangs back and steers this length ball by Akash to the third man fence. FOUR! Akash strays outside leg stump on a length and Dube just swivels and flicks it behind to the boundary. 10 runs from the over.

CSK 37/2 in 7 overs: Spin has been introduced. Maxwell to bowl. He will be hoping to use the surface to good effect. Prabhudessai makes a mark in his very first game with a sensational run out. Stationed at backward point, he dives and throws the ball back to the ‘keeper in the wink of an eye. Moeen has to go. Dube comes to the crease.

CSK 35/1 in 6 overs: Pumped downtown! Robin Uthappa picks up the first maximum of the game. The six mars an otherwise decent over.

CSK 25/1 in 5 overs: Moeen, looking to drive through cover, gets an outside edge that rolls down to third man. Nearly chipped to Rawat at mid-on… Uthappa heaves a sigh of relief! He finds the gap at extra cover off the next ball to finally pick up a boundary.

CSK 19/1 in 4 overs: Four! Gaikwad welcomes Hazlewood with a square cut to deep backward point. The Maharashtra batter goes upstairs after Hazlewood strikes him on the thigh pad and the umpire raises his finger. ‘Umpire’s Call’ it is… ball tracker shows it would have gone on to clip the top of middle and off.

CSK 15/0 in 3 overs: Siraj digs it in and Gaikwad crunches a pull through midwicket for four. The dry wicket will render the short balls harmless tonight.

CSK 8/0 in 2 overs: Hazlewood to bowl his first over in IPL 2022 against his former team. Interestingly, he is now the 150th cricketer to play for RCB. Uthappa takes a quick single with a poke to mid-on; a direct hit would have seen him a mile out of his crease.

CSK 6/0 in 1 over: Gaikwad is off the mark with a nudge towards point. Uthappa gets his first run courtesy of an outside edge that runs down to third man. Lucky boundary for Ruturaj who didn’t look to offer a shot. The ball clips the open face of the blade to race past first slip.

Uthappa and Gaikwad to open the batting for CSK. Siraj to get things rolling for RCB.

WHAT THE CAPTAINS SAID

Ravindra Jadeja: We would have bowled first as well. We’ll look to play competitive cricket. The toss is not going our way. As a team, every game is important. We’ll try to fight it out.

Faf du Plessis: We are going to bowl. It’s like playing against my brothers today. We have been good with the ball, we need to improve in the last two overs. Josh Hazlewood is back, excited to see what he will do with the new ball.

TOSS

Royal Challengers Bangalore opts to bowl.

PITCH REPORT

“The pitch is very, very dry and already a little bit dusty. This is going to spin. For the seam bowlers, there’s not a great deal on this pitch. Batting first, if they can get 170-180, that’s defendable. The ground staff are treating the outfield again, so dew won’t be as big a problem as it has been earlier on in the IPL,” reckons Graeme Swann.

CSK vs RCB MATCH PREVIEW

The clash between Royal Challengers and Chennai Super Kings is one of the marquee matches in the Indian Premier League. While expectations are always high, the records are lopsided in favour of the Super Kings.

However, when the two sides meet here at the DY Patil Stadium on Tuesday, the Royal Challengers, led by ex CSK star Faf du Plessis, will start as firm favourites.

After failing to defend a high score in the first match against Punjab Kings, RCB has done well to bounce back with a hat-trick of wins.

In the last match against Mumbai Indians, the bowlers did well to take six wickets after the PowerPlay for just 29 runs, thus restricting the opponent to a modest total before Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli chased down the target comfortably.

While the team will miss the services of pacer Harshal Patel who left the bubble after the game on Saturday due to a bereavement in the family, it received a boost with pacers Josh Hazlewood and Jason Behrendorff starting training on Monday.

The Super Kings, under new skipper Ravindra Jadeja, had a disastrous start to its title defence campaign with four straight losses. Their concern is the absence of effective wicket-taking bowlers, especially with the new ball, while dew has blunted its spin attack.

The men in yellow also will need the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu to step up sooner than later to give themselves a chance in the tournament.
